Ubuntu Web

Chrome OS, although still absent from mainstream computing, is slowly alive and well. It seems that the monopoly of this operating system may end. Work is underway on the Ubuntu Web -a Mozilla Firefox-based OS browser.

Those of you who follow this market a little more closely may be a little surprised to see that Mozilla's Firefox is to be used as the basis for Ubuntu's Web — it sounds familiar. Well, in fact, there used to be something like Firefox OS, but it was so long ago that we could talk about a completely new project.

Firefox

A profile called Ubuntu Web has appeared on Twitter, which somehow foreshadows the whole idea. The person responsible for this project will be Rudra Saraswat, the creator of Ubuntu Unity Remix, Ubuntu Education or Raspberry Pi-adapted Krob Linux.

Mozilla Firefox is distributed under a license that has been developed for the project itself, MPL. Importantly, however, this is an open-source license. Luck, it was also one of Google Chrome's biggest competitors-especially in the past, when Firefox stormed the hearts of Internet users (because the word was still commonly used back then;)). Is there a better base candidate for this type of project?

Ubuntu

Although Chrome OS is still a niche in its own way, Google has a monopoly on its segment. Will Ubuntu Web gain enough popularity to threaten the Mountain View giant anyway?

Ubuntu Web is likely to look more or less like Chrome OS, which has only gained support for Linux and Android apps over time-initially, add-ons and plugins had to be enough.

By the way-we've got to remember that Chrome OS is based on the Linux kernel. Nomen omen, this operating system is also based on the BSD Free Software License.

FreeBSD

Or maybe the role of Ubuntu Web is going to be slightly different? On the occasion of the end of Windows 7 support, Canonical decided to encourage users to switch to Ubuntu -Mateusz once wrote about it. Maybe Ubuntu Web isn't going to compete with Chrome OS in any way, but is it going to be a tempting alternative for less demanding users? Or maybe it's going to be a great way to revive older laptops? Only time will tell.

So, that's all from me. Comment your thoughts about this upcoming ubuntu project with huge potential. Next time, I'll arrive with another topic. Till then, Stay Safe. PEACE !!
